Mababe Mobile Safaris offer an immersive journey through Botswana’s unspoiled wilderness, particularly within the Mababe Depression and along the banks of the Khwai River. This region is celebrated for its expansive grassy plains, dense mopane woodlands, and seasonal floodplains that attract an exceptional concentration of wildlife. Guests can expect rewarding sightings of elephants, lions, leopards, buffalo, and, with luck, rarer species such as roan and sable antelope. The mobile safari format allows for a flexible and responsive experience, adjusting to the rhythms of nature and following wildlife movements to ensure unforgettable game-viewing opportunities.
The mobile camp is thoughtfully positioned on the banks of the Khwai River, offering guests breathtaking views and a truly remote, tranquil setting. Accommodations feature spacious mini-Meru tents with en-suite bathroom facilities, comfortable bedding, and soft lighting to provide a balance of comfort and wilderness. At the heart of the camp, guests gather in a central dining tent and enjoy evenings seated around the open fire – sharing stories under the stars. This simple yet atmospheric guest area enhances the feeling of community and connection with nature. With expert guides leading game drives and walking safaris each day, the experience is as informative as it is exhilarating – an authentic, low-impact safari that places guests at the very heart of Botswana’s wild beauty.
FACILITIES
Game Drives
Twice-daily game drives take guests deep into the heart of the Mababe and Khwai ecosystems. With expert guides leading the way, these drives are rich in encounters – from predator-prey interactions to dramatic elephant crossings and intricate details of the smaller creatures that define the bush. Morning drives often begin at sunrise with a fresh cup of coffee in hand, while evening drives may end with sundowners and the rising moon, offering the magic of a day fully lived.
Birding
The Mababe Depression is a birder’s paradise, particularly during the green season when migrants arrive in spectacular numbers. With over 450 recorded species in the area, bird enthusiasts can look forward to sightings of carmine bee-eaters, African skimmers, wattled cranes, Pel’s fishing owl, and the elusive slaty egret. Our guides are experienced in both general wildlife and avian life, and birding-focused drives can be arranged upon request.
Cultural Encounters & Sundowners
We believe that a complete safari experience also connects you with the people and heritage of the land. Guests have the opportunity to engage with local communities through meaningful cultural exchanges, whether it’s a storytelling session by the fire, a traditional song and dance evening, or a visit to a nearby village (where applicable and respectful). Evening sundowners are a ritual here – served at scenic vantage points, accompanied by handcrafted drinks and the glowing colours of the African sunset.
Our luxury mobile safari camp offers an elevated yet authentic experience, combining the spirit of classic African exploration with the comforts of a well-appointed stay. Our Fully Inclusive rate includes:
At the centre of camp lies the main dining and guest area – an open-sided canvas tent that serves as the social heart of the experience. Guests gather here for delicious, freshly prepared meals, or retire to the fire circle after dinner, where stories and laughter echo under a sky full of stars.

Due to the nature of the mobile safari environment and the need for quiet, safety, and a respect for the surrounding wildlife, we regret that we cannot accommodate children under the age of 12, unless the camp is booked on a sole-use basis. This ensures that families can enjoy their experience with the space and flexibility required, without compromising the experience for other guests.
