Grassland Safari Lodge

Nestled on the fringes of the Central Kalahari Game Reserve in the Ghanzi District, Grasslands Safari Lodge promises unparalleled and immersive adventures. The ability to offer such a cross-section of activities, from an exceptionally productive waterhole right in front of the lodge (day and night) to horseback safaris, morning drives, afternoon drives, the Wild Dog project, and the white Rhinos, along with an entire Bushman experience unlike any other in Botswana, sets Grasslands Safari Lodge apart.

But what truly distinguishes us now is our claim to the most authentic and comprehensive Bushman (San) experience in Southern Africa!

Rooted deeply in the Bushman (San) culture, the lodge owes its authenticity to the profound connection and understanding of its owners, Neeltjie (formerly De Graaff) and her husband Tiaan Bower.

Neeltjie stands as a beacon of knowledge, boasting an almost unrivaled understanding of the San culture. Fluent in Naro, the primary language of the Bushmen, she opens a gateway for guests to delve into the lives of these captivating people. As a sixth-generation descendant with familial ties intricately interwoven with the Bushmen, Neeltjie brings a treasure trove of insights into their customs, culture, cuisine, and philosophy, making our Bushman interaction profoundly different and authentic. From walks to toolmaking, to village life immersed with pearls of wisdom from the world’s oldest living culture, the experience is both exceptional and profound.

However, Grasslands Safari Lodge offers more than just cultural immersion. It boasts exhilarating game drives and comprehensive horseback safaris across the Kalahari grasslands, providing guests with unforgettable encounters with a myriad of wildlife. From the regal Gemsbok to the nimble springboks and the elusive rhinoceros, the Kalahari unfolds a rich tapestry of animal life. Neeltjie and Tiaan are passionate about sharing their expertise on the predator project, particularly focused on the rare African Wild Dogs, enriching the safari experience. And let’s not forget the white Rhinos, now residents at Grasslands, completing the Big 5 safari experience.
